PM Modi Accuses Opposition Of Undermining Sanatana Dharma And National Unity
In a strongly-worded address at a rally in Madhya Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the opposition INDIA alliance, alleging their intent to undermine Sanatana Dharma and lead the country back into a thousand years of subjugation.
Prime Minister Modi’s remarks, delivered in response to DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin’s comments on Sanatana Dharma, marked his first public response to the controversy.
During his speech, PM Modi asserted that the opposition alliance, which recently convened in Mumbai, had formulated a hidden agenda aimed at attacking Indian culture, faith, and the time-honored values and traditions that have united the nation for centuries.
Linking India’s historical heroes to the Sanatana culture, PM Modi emphasized the opposition’s resolve to erode this heritage. He mentioned figures like Devi Ahilyabai Holkar and Rani Lakshmibai, who drew strength from Sanatana values to challenge colonial rule.
PM Modi also highlighted how Mahatma Gandhi, inspired by Lord Ram, considered Sanatana Dharma an essential part of his life. He recalled Gandhi’s last words, “hey Ram.”
The Prime Minister went on to mention Swami Vivekanand and Lokmanya Tilak, who were similarly influenced by Sanatana values. He noted that this culture motivated freedom fighters, even those who faced execution at the hands of the British, to express their desire to be born “in the lap of Bharat Ma” once more.
PM Modi cautioned that these attacks would likely intensify in the future, urging Sanatanis and those who love the country to remain vigilant. He called for unity against forces attempting to undermine Sanatana Dharma and push India into a thousand years of servitude.
These comments from PM Modi came in the wake of Udhayanidhi Stalin’s remarks equating Sanatana Dharma with diseases during a discussion about caste differences. The BJP seized upon these comments to criticize the entire opposition alliance, while some alliance members distanced themselves from Udhayanidhi Stalin’s statement.
PM Modi also used the occasion to lay the foundation stone for several projects in Madhya Pradesh, including a petrochemical complex at the Bina Refinery of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, amounting to over ₹50,000 crore. His visit to poll-bound Chhattisgarh was also on the agenda for the day.
