Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme has developed into a key social security mechanism for marginal farmers across India.
The Prime Minister addressed a public gathering in Khanapara in Guwahati. He criticised the Indian National Congress for allegedly spreading misleading claims when the programme was introduced.
PM Modi said opposition leaders circulated rumours suggesting beneficiaries would need to return the assistance after elections. He asserted that such claims attempted to create confusion among farmers.
Despite these allegations, the Prime Minister said the initiative has become an essential economic cushion for small cultivators throughout the country.
Highlighting recent developments, PM Modi announced that the latest instalment of PM-Kisan funds had just reached the bank accounts of millions of farmers nationwide. He said many beneficiaries had neither bank accounts nor mobile phones before 2014.
Today, beneficiaries receive financial assistance directly through the government’s expanding digital and banking infrastructure.
According to the Prime Minister, the government has already transferred more than ₹4.20 lakh crore to farmers under the scheme since its launch. He further stated that the government credited about ₹18,000 crore to crores of farmers across the country on Friday under the latest instalment.
The Prime Minister also revealed that several families connected with Assam’s tea gardens have recently received official land ownership titles.
Congratulating the beneficiaries, PM Modi extended his greetings to farmers, tea garden workers, and residents of Assam. He reiterated that the government remains committed to strengthening rural welfare programmes and improving the livelihoods of farmers across the nation.
