Bhartiya Janta Party is observing June 25 as ‘black day’ marking 50th anniversary of Emergency imposed in 1975 by Indira Gandhi. Taking to the platform X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a post regarding the same. He wrote, “Today is a day to pay homage to all those great men and women who resisted the Emergency.”
“The Dark Day of Emergency remind us of how the Congress Party subverted basic freedoms and trampled over the Constitution of India which every Indian respects greatly,” PM Narendra Modi added in his post on 50th anniversary of Emergency.

PM Modi wrote that the then Congress government disregarded every democratic principle and turned the country into a prison to remain in power. Congress harassed everyone who disagreed with it. Socially regressive policies were implemented to target the most vulnerable sections.
“Those who imposed the Emergency have no right to profess their love for our Constitution. These are the same people who imposed Article 356 on countless occasions, brought in bills to destroy press freedom, destroyed federalism and violated every aspect of the Constitution.”
He further affirmed, “The mindset that led to the imposition of Emergency is still alive in the same party that imposed it. They hide their disdain for the Constitution through their symbolism, but the people of India are fully aware of their intentions and are rejecting them time and again.”
