In response to last week’s breach of security at the Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi characterized the incident as “very serious” in his initial remarks. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive investigation rather than engaging in debates. During an interview, he underscored the significance of determining the responsible parties and their motives. The shocking breach unfolded in the Lok Sabha chamber, with two intruders leaping from desk to desk and releasing colored smoke canisters. Simultaneously, their accomplices staged a similar protest outside the Parliament.

The accused individuals, expressing concerns over Manipur violence, unemployment, and farmers’ problems, revealed their motivations to investigators. Six arrests have been made in connection with the case, with the Delhi Police invoking the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act as part of anti-terror measures.

While the Opposition criticized the government for the security breach, calling for a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla clarified that Lok Sabha security falls under the secretariat’s jurisdiction, resisting intervention by the Centre. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge labeled the security breach a serious issue, urging the Home Minister to address Parliament.

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi attributed the incident to unemployment resulting from the policies of the Modi government, highlighting the pervasive issue of joblessness in the country.

In retaliation, the BJP claimed that Mr. Gandhi “always talks trash” and brought up the fact that the jobless rate was at its lowest point in six years.

BJP IT in-charge Amit Malviya wrote on X, saying, “Instead, Rahul Gandhi and I.N.D.I Alliance leaders must explain the close linkages of those involved in the Parliament breach with Congress, TMC, and CPI(M).”
