Patna District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh has accused certain individuals and coaching institutes of instigating the ongoing protests by Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) exam candidates, claiming they have no direct involvement with the examination process.
He stated that many of the protest leaders are not BPSC candidates themselves and are spreading false information to provoke the actual protesters.
“On Wednesday, protesters moved away from the designated protest site in Gardanibagh and gathered near the restricted area close to the BPSC office on Nehru Path. Despite repeated requests from the authorities to return to the designated site, some individuals continued their protest. The police used ‘mild force’ to disperse the protestors from the restricted area,” he explained.
Singh’s comments followed the Patna Police’s cane-charge on BPSC candidates at Nehru Road and Bailey Road, close to the BPSC office, on Wednesday.
The protests center around the demand to cancel the BPSC exam held on 13 December.
The district police are facing criticism for their response to the protests, especially regarding the use of a cane-charge on the demonstrators.
However, the DM defended the police’s actions, stating it was essential to maintain law and order.
He noted, “We will take strict action against those provoking candidates or creating disturbances. We have identified specific coaching institutes involved in these activities.”
“Certain social media handlers are distorting facts and spreading baseless rumours, contributing to the unrest,” the DM added.
Additionally, Singh addressed an incident at Gardanibagh Hospital on 23 December, where miscreants entered the facility, misbehaved with staff, and vandalized property.
“A case has been filed against individuals who entered restricted areas, created disturbances and law-and-order problems, spread rumors and incited people. We will take strict action against the offenders,” he concluded.
