Mahua Moitra to be expelled from parliament ?

Mahua Moitra, a Trinamool Lok Sabha MP, stated that even if she is expelled at this time due to the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee’s findings into her alleged cash-for-questions charges, she will return to the parliament with a larger mandate in the future. Mahua Moitra told media that the 500-page report, which was approved by the ethics committee by a vote of 6 to 4, was like a prearranged match in a kangaroo court in her initial response. “Parliamentary democracy is dying in India,” Moitra declared.

Extremely serious accusations on Mahua Moitra…

The ethics committee referred to Mahua Moitra’s accusations as extremely serious and ordered her removal from the Lok Sabha due to her sharing of her Parliament login with industrialist Darshan Hiranandani, who acknowledged posting questions Mahua Moitra had raised in Parliament about Gautam Adani. According to sources, the logins were used 47 times from Dubai when Mahua Moitra was not present.

The BJP MP Nishikant Dubey and the lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai, who filed the initial complaint against Mahua, his former partner, were both interviewed by the ethics commission. When Mahua Moitra was questioned on November 2, she stated that she was harassed by people asking her inappropriate and private questions. On Thursday, four panel opposition members expressed their disapproval of the draft report and claimed that it was not discussed. They stated that Darshan Hiranandani was not called in their criticism of the report.

Moitra says, “This actually does nothing to me”

Mahua Moitra said the draft report is just a recommendation and nothing has happened. “Let them take it up in the Winter Session of Parliament. This actually does nothing to me. This can’t shut me up.”

“I am happy that the BJP has shown to the entire country the mockery they have made of parliamentary democracy,” Mahua said.

Regarding Mahua Moitra’s alleged cash-for-questions scheme, Trinamook remained reticent. It continued by saying that the component would not address the matter. But on Thursday, Trinamool national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee declared that Mahua Moitra was the victim of political vengeance. “Whoever is questioning the government on the Adani issue is being harassed. How can the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee take any action against Moitra even before the allegations are proven against her?” Abhishek said.

In 2019, Mahua Moitra emerged victorious from the West Bengal constituency of Krishnanagar, marking her maiden election as a Member of Parliament. She had served as a Karimpur MLA prior to that.
