Parliament gears up for a crucial session on Thursday, with key bills and discussions lined up on the agenda.
Lok Sabha’s Agenda
The Lok Sabha is set for a significant legislative session on Thursday, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah likely to introduce an amendment to the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
This bill aims to update and enhance the existing framework for disaster management across the country, ensuring a more robust and responsive system.
In parallel, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will move a statutory resolution to amend the First Schedule of the Customs Tariff Act, a measure likely to impact import tariffs and trade regulations.
According to the day’s agenda, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, alongside Deputy Leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi, will present a motion supporting the second report of the Business Advisory Committee, initially introduced on 31 July.
Additionally, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal will move a motion for the election of two members to the advisory council of the Delhi Development Authority, an essential body overseeing urban planning and development in the national capital.
The Lok Sabha will however continue its discussions on the Demands for Grants for the fiscal year 2024-25.
Key ministries under review include the Ministry of Railways, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
These discussions are crucial for the allocation of funds and resources necessary for the functioning and improvement of these sectors.
Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh will move a motion for the election of two members to the Council of the National Institutes of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM).
He will also provide an update on the implementation of recommendations from the 67th Report of the Standing Committee on Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Food Processing, specifically focusing on the Scheme for Creation/Expansion of Food Processing and Preservation Capacities (CEFPPC).
Rajya Sabha’s Agenda
In the Rajya Sabha, discussions will resume on the functioning of the Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry, initiated by MP Ghanshyam Tiwari on 31 July.
The Upper House will also delve into the workings of the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ministry.
Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Raksha Khadse, is likley to address the Rajya Sabha with statements on the implementation status of various recommendations from the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth, and Sports.
This comprehensive legislative agenda underscores the government’s focus on disaster management, economic reforms, urban development, and agricultural advancements, reflecting the diverse priorities and pressing issues facing the nation.
