In a significant development, 15 MPs faced suspension from Parliament during the ongoing winter session—14 from Lok Sabha and one from Rajya Sabha. Their suspension resulted from holding placards and demanding a detailed response from the Home Minister regarding a recent security breach.

The list of suspended Lok Sabha MPs includes Benny Behanan, VK Sreekandan, Mohammad Jawed, PR Natarajan, Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, K Subrahmanyam, SR Parthiban, S Venkatesan, Manickam Tagore, TN Prathapan, Hibi Eden, S Jothimani, Ramya Haridas, and Dean Kuriakose.

Opposition MPs, expressing their discontent, addressed the media on the suspension. Congress MP Jairam Ramesh criticized the government as dictatorial, emphasizing the demand for a statement from the Home Minister on the security breach. RJD MP Manoj Jha highlighted the gravity of the issue, framing it not just as a parliamentary but a security matter.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi linked the suspension to raising the security lapse issue, particularly pointing out the suspension of TMC MP Derek O’Brien. Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary stressed the opposition’s right to make demands and participate in the House, calling the government’s actions hypocritical.

Manikam Tagore accused the government of behaving like Hitler’s regime, demanding the Home Minister’s statement on the security breach. MPs from various parties, including Danish Ali, KC Venugopal, Binoy Viswam, and Rajiv Ranjan Singh, expressed concerns about the government’s attitude, emphasizing the need for accountability.

DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi raised the issue of an MP facilitating the entry of individuals involved in the security breach, criticizing the lack of action against that MP. Karti Chidambaram highlighted the security and intelligence failure, urging the government to provide a statement. Abdul Khaliq called the government a failure, urging the Home Minister to take responsibility and resign, emphasizing the importance of a safe Parliament for a safe country.
