‘Panch Parivartan’ Calls For A Civilisational Reset Towards A Self-Reliant And Harmonious India

Marking a confluence of memory and vision, a national intellectual seminar titled ‘Panch Parivartan’ was organised in New Delhi to honour the birth centenary of Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the punya smriti of late Shrikant Shankar Joshi. The event served as a platform for reflection on India’s cultural roots while addressing contemporary national challenges.

Bringing together policymakers, scholars and civil society representatives, the seminar focused on strengthening India’s journey towards self-reliance, harmony and ethical development. Speakers highlighted the relevance of civilisational values in shaping modern governance and social cohesion.

Organised jointly by the Motherland Intellectual Foundation and the Muslim Rashtriya Manch, the programme sought to connect Joshi’s intellectual legacy with Vajpayee’s statesmanship. Speakers underlined that both leaders embodied a rare synthesis of thought, ethics and public life, which continues to guide national discourse.

Recalling their contributions, participants stressed the importance of intellectual clarity, national loyalty and inclusive engagement in addressing India’s evolving aspirations.

Speaking as the chief guest, Union Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, and Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, linked economic growth with India’s civilisational ethos. He described ‘Panch Parivartan’ as a concept deeply embedded in the country’s cultural consciousness.

Highlighting India’s progress, Vaishnaw said the nation is advancing rapidly towards becoming the world’s third-largest economy. He emphasised that swadeshi thinking and self-reliance anchor this growth, citing India’s expanding global footprint in telecom and technology manufacturing.

Unity Through Diversity

Presiding over the seminar, senior RSS leader and Muslim Rashtriya Manch representative Indresh Kumar delivered a reflective address on unity and identity. He stressed that India should view diversity as a strength rather than a source of division.

Invoking multiple spiritual traditions, he said that truth remains one, regardless of names, and asserted that India’s unity is rooted in shared cultural sensibilities that transcend religious and linguistic differences.

Focusing on education, Professor (Dr) Shahid Akhter, Executive Chairman of NCMEI, highlighted the role of cultural self-awareness in shaping meaningful learning. He said education must go beyond personal success and contribute to character building, social harmony and national progress.

According to him, India’s cultural heritage remains its greatest strength and must inform educational priorities.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr D K Agarwal, President of the Motherland Intellectual Foundation, described ‘Panch Parivartan’ as a practical framework for nation-building. He further explained that transformation begins with the individual and then gradually extends to the family, society and, ultimately, the nation.

Additionally, while outlining the five pillars—Social Harmony, Family Enlightenment, Environment, Swadeshi and Selfhood, and Civic Duties—speakers emphasised that balanced progress across these dimensions is essential for sustainable and long-term national renewal.

Concluding the event, organisers described ‘Panch Parivartan’ as a thought-driven movement rather than a one-time programme, committed to carrying forward the intellectual legacy of Vajpayee and Joshi.
