The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has directed all Pakistani nationals holding Long-Term Visas (LTVs), who have not acquired Indian citizenship, to reapply through the Electronic Foreigners Regional Registration Office (e-FRRO) portal with verified documents.
The MHA issued the order on April 28, 2025.
Application Window Opens May 10
Applicants must complete the reapplication process on the e-FRRO portal (https://indianfrro.gov.in) between May 10 and July 10, 2025. The ministry has warned that failure to reapply within this timeframe will result in the cancellation of the long-term visa.
Inspector General of Police (Security), Rajasthan, Vishnukant confirmed the new directive.
“The Union Home Ministry has decided that all Pakistani citizens who hold long-term visas but have not obtained Indian citizenship must now reapply on the e-FRRO portal with verified documents,” he stated.
Previous Exemptions For Pakistani Nationals Withdrawn
Vishnukant noted that the previous policy exempted LTV holders from reapplying. However, the central government reviewed the policy and decided to implement the fresh reapplication mandate.
“This is a significant change in the long-term visa policy for Pakistani nationals,” he added.
Reapplication Requires Verified Documents
Applicants must upload the following documents during the reapplication process:
- Valid LTV certificate
- Recent passport-sized photograph (white background)
- Current address proof
- Details of profession, occupation, and religion
- Copy of Indian citizenship application (if submitted)
Government Moves To Streamline Visa Oversight
The updated policy aims to streamline and verify the status of LTV holders more rigorously.
Authorities believe this move will improve tracking and documentation of long-term residents who have yet to acquire Indian citizenship.
