The Congress Working Committee (CWC) on Thursday condemned the Pahalgam terror attack and directly blamed Pakistan for orchestrating the assault in Kashmir.
The CWC said terrorists deliberately targeted Hindu tourists to incite communal unrest across India.
“This attack strikes at the core values of our Republic,” the committee said. It urged citizens to remain calm and united in response to the provocation.
The Congress reaffirmed its firm commitment to combat cross-border terrorism with national unity and resolve.
The party demanded a thorough investigation into intelligence and security failures that allowed the massacre of tourists in Pahalgam.
“We must examine these lapses in the public interest,” the CWC stated. “Only a transparent probe will deliver justice to the victims and their families.”
The committee expressed deep shock and condemned the brutal attack that took place on April 22.
Members offered heartfelt condolences to the grieving families and stood in full solidarity with them. They also observed a two-minute silence to honour the deceased.
The CWC praised local pony handlers and tourist guides for their bravery. One guide sacrificed his life while protecting tourists.
“Their selfless actions show the true spirit of India,” the party said.
The committee flagged serious concerns about the upcoming Amarnath Yatra. It called on the government to deploy robust, transparent, and proactive security arrangements to protect both pilgrims and locals who rely on tourism.
While acknowledging the unified condemnation from political parties and civil society in Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress criticised the BJP.
“The BJP, through official and proxy social media, is using this tragedy to create division,” the CWC said. “At a time when the nation needs unity, this approach is deeply disturbing.”
