Union Home Minister Amit Shah welcomed the inclusion of Sarnath in Uttar Pradesh in the UNESCO World Heritage List, describing the recognition as a proud moment for India and a tribute to the country’s rich civilisational heritage linked to Lord Buddha.
Sharing his reaction on social media, Shah said India’s cultural pride had reached new heights with Sarnath receiving the prestigious UNESCO World Heritage status.
The Home Minister said the honour reflects the historical and spiritual significance of Sarnath, one of Buddhism’s most revered pilgrimage sites.
Shah noted that the UNESCO recognition celebrates India’s deep-rooted association with Lord Buddha and his timeless teachings. He also expressed confidence that the inscription would introduce Buddha’s wisdom to a wider global audience and encourage people to embrace the values of peace, compassion and enlightenment.
