On the 79th Independence Day, PM Narendra Modi declared Aatmanirbhar Bharat as the foundation of a Viksit Bharat by 2047, highlighting India’s progress in defence, technology, space, energy, manufacturing, and healthcare.
Addressing the nation from the Red Fort, the Prime Minister cited Operation Sindoor as proof of India’s defence self-reliance. He stressed that indigenous capabilities empower the country to act decisively without foreign dependence.
The PM urged domestic development of jet engines and semiconductor chips by the year-end. He called for leadership in AI, cybersecurity, and deep-tech innovation.
Defence Autonomy and Cultural Inspiration
PM Modi announced the launch of ‘Mission Sudarshan Chakra’, aimed at neutralising enemy infiltrations and enhancing offensive capabilities. He linked the mission to Shri Krishna’s Sudarshan Chakra, showing how India draws from its cultural heritage for modern defence innovations.
The Prime Minister urged innovators and youth to ensure future defence technology remains entirely home-grown. He stressed that jet engine production within India is vital for strategic autonomy.
Space, Energy, and Strategic Resources
In the space sector, PM Modi celebrated Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla’s achievements and announced plans for India’s own space station. He noted that over 300 startups are driving advances in satellites and exploration.
To secure essential resources, he announced the National Critical Minerals Mission, exploring 1,200 sites. He said that controlling these minerals strengthens strategic autonomy.
He also spoke of the National Deepwater Exploration Mission to harness deepwater energy resources, cut foreign fuel dependence, and boost energy self-reliance.
The Prime Minister announced private sector participation in nuclear energy. He set a goal to increase nuclear capacity tenfold by the centenary of independence.
Agricultural self-reliance featured in his address, with a focus on domestic fertiliser production to protect farmers and ensure food security. He urged youth to develop indigenous social media platforms to safeguard digital sovereignty.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed India’s role as the ‘pharmacy of the world’ and called for more R&D in medicines and vaccines. He drew inspiration from the country’s Covid-19 success.
PM Modi urged citizens to embrace the ‘Vocal for Local’ movement, promoting Swadeshi goods from pride, not compulsion. He concluded by affirming that Aatmanirbhar Bharat is the foundation of India’s dignity, security, and progress towards becoming a developed nation by 2047.
