Not Built To Show Power, But To Serve: PM Modi On Seva Teerth Inauguration

Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially inaugurated the newly built Seva Teerth and Kartavya Bhavan office complexes in New Delhi. He dedicated them to the people of India as landmarks in the nation’s development journey.

Addressing the event, he described these modern administrative hubs as clear expressions of governance that place citizens at the centre, signalling a departure from India’s colonial architectural past.

PM Modi noted that the British built the South Block and North Block to display imperial authority.

The British elevated these edifices and designed them to display dominion over a subjugated nation.

In contrast, he said, Seva Teerth stands at ground level, symbolising humility, accessibility and close connection with the public.

The Prime Minister underlined that decisions taken within these new complexes will serve the aspirations of 140 crore Indians rather than the will of any distant ruler.

Seva Teerth was built to support a modern governance ecosystem.

Seva Teerth brings together the Prime Minister’s Office, National Security Council Secretariat, and Cabinet Secretariat. It replaces outdated and scattered facilities across the Central Vista area.

The adjacent Kartavya Bhavan‑1 and ‑2 will house key ministries, including finance, defence, health, education and corporate affairs.

These integrated, digital buildings enhance coordination, efficiency, and public engagement in policymaking.

PM Modi emphasised that the name ‘Seva Teerth’ means a sacred place of service. He said it reflects the duty-driven ethos in governance and the citizens’ central role in national progress.

Prime Minister Modi said the modern infrastructure supports expanding government functions and boosts technology and efficiency.

The dedication ceremony symbolised a major shift in India’s civil administration.

The government is moving from colonial remnants toward a forward-looking, people-centric system for Viksit Bharat.
