A 23-year-old man sought in a murder case was caught near Noida following a confrontation with police in which he was injured, authorities said on Tuesday.
At the time of his arrest, the suspect was carrying a reward of Rs 25,000. According to police reports, he and his accomplices shot and killed a liquor vendor in Greater Noida’s New Haibatpur village on March 31 after he refused to sell them alcohol around midnight.
Identified as Nazim, a resident of Meerut, the offender was captured following an encounter on Monday night at Ek Murti Chowk in the Bisrakh police station area, officials confirmed.
Police stated that they had established a roadblock and signaled the suspect, who was riding a motorbike, to stop for questioning. However, he attempted to flee, firing at the police team in the process, which led to a pursuit and exchange of gunfire.
Upon his arrest, Nazim was found in possession of an illegal weapon and cartridges, with his motorbike subsequently impounded. Suniti, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida), mentioned that the accused was taken to a hospital for treatment after sustaining a gunshot wound to the leg.
The suspect’s involvement in the murder of a liquor merchant in Haibatpur village on March 31 came to light, prompting a FIR to be filed at the Bisrakh police station, according to officials. Additionally, two other individuals have already been detained in connection with the murder. Authorities emphasized that further legal proceedings are ongoing.
