No DGMO Meet With Pak Today, No Expiry Date For Break In Hostilities: Indian Army

The Indian Army on Sunday confirmed that no DGMO-level talks with Pakistan were scheduled, adding that the ceasefire between the two countries remains in place.

A defence ministry statement said, “Some media houses are reporting that the ceasefire between India and Pakistan is ending today. Queries are also being received if a DGMO-level talk is scheduled today? The response is as under:- No DGMO talks are scheduled today. As far as continuation of a break in hostilities, as decided in DGMOs interaction of 12 May is concerned, there is no expiry date to it.”

India and Pakistan agreed to the ceasefire during a DGMO interaction on 12 May.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the ceasefire will not affect trade or the Indus Water Treaty, which remain suspended.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited Badami Bagh in Jammu and Kashmir and Bhuj in Gujarat. He said India will respect the ceasefire only if Pakistan stops supporting terrorism.

At the Air Force base in Bhuj, Singh warned that India had put Pakistan on ‘probation’. He further added that India will strike back hard if Pakistan provokes.

The armed forces remain on high alert. Security forces and police have orders to stay vigilant against terrorists and their local supporters.

Earlier, heavy shelling by Pakistan displaced hundreds of border residents in Jammu and Kashmir.

The shelling destroyed over 200 homes and shops in Poonch, Rajouri, Baramulla, and Kupwara.

Many residents are now returning home. They are cautiously resuming daily work, farming, and caring for livestock.
