Adani Defence Joins Sparton To Indigenise Anti-Submarine Warfare Solutions For India

Adani Defence and Aerospace on Sunday announced a partnership with Sparton (DeLeon Springs LLC), a group company of Elbit Systems and a global leader in anti-submarine warfare (ASW) systems. The collaboration aims to localise the assembly of advanced electronic systems and ASW solutions for Indian and global markets.

With this move, Adani Defence and Aerospace becomes the first private Indian company to offer indigenised sonobuoy solutions. The step supports India’s goal of achieving defence self-reliance.

Jeet Adani, Vice President of Adani Enterprises, said the partnership would help strengthen India’s undersea warfare capabilities. “In a volatile maritime environment, boosting undersea warfare is critical for protecting sovereignty and national interests,” he said.

Boost to India’s Naval Capabilities

Jeet Adani said the Indian Navy needs integrated, mission-ready ISR and ASW systems, especially indigenously developed sonobuoys. These systems must be rapidly deployable and competitive worldwide.

“This partnership with Sparton gives India access to advanced technology and builds a self-reliant defence ecosystem. We aim to design, develop, and deliver world-class capabilities in India, for India and the world,” he added.

The agreement will combine Sparton’s advanced ASW technology with Adani Defence’s expertise in defence manufacturing for the Indian Navy.

Sonobuoys are key tools in undersea domain awareness (UDA). They detect, track, and locate submarines and other underwater threats. These systems are crucial for anti-submarine warfare and protecting naval assets.

Reducing Import Dependency

Ashish Rajvanshi, CEO of Adani Defence and Aerospace, said India had long relied on foreign imports for such systems. “This partnership marks a shift towards building self-reliant capabilities in a critical domain,” he said.

Sparton’s partnership with the Indian Navy and the ‘Make in India’ initiative will now support the localisation of sonobuoy manufacturing.

“Sparton is proud to bring our proven ASW technology to India through this partnership,” said Donnelly Bohan, CEO of Sparton DeLeon Springs LLC. He added that the collaboration would help create high-tech skill sets and deliver reliable solutions tailored to the Indian Navy’s needs.

Adani Defence and Aerospace has built a strong ecosystem of start-ups and MSMEs focused on exports, quality systems, and advanced defence manufacturing.
