Atal Setu
The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), also known as Atal Setu in honour of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, is set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 12, according to the Chief Minister’s Office.
The speed limit on Atal Setu
The Mumbai police have implemented specific regulations for the sea bridge, setting a maximum speed limit of 100 kmph for four-wheelers. Notably, motorcycles, autorickshaws, and tractors will be prohibited from using the bridge. The speed limit for vehicles such as cars, taxis, light motor vehicles, minibuses, and two-axle buses will be 100 kilometres per hour, with a reduced speed of 40 kmph during the ascent and descent of the bridge.
The imposed speed limits aim to mitigate potential dangers, obstructions, and inconveniences to the public, as stated by an official. The MTHL, with a total cost of ₹18,000 crore, spans from Sewri in Mumbai to Nhava Sheva in Uran taluka in Raigad district.
Multi-axle heavy vehicles, trucks, and buses heading towards Mumbai will not be allowed entry on the Eastern Freeway. Instead, they are directed to use the Mumbai Port-Sewri Exit (Exit 1C) and take the MBPT Road near ‘Gadi Adda’ for further movement.

Bikes and Autos to not run on Atal Setu
Vehicles such as motorcycles, mopeds, three-wheelers, autos, tractors, animal-drawn vehicles, and slow-moving vehicles will not be permitted on the sea bridge. The MTHL, a 6-lane sea link, comprises a 16.50-kilometre stretch over the sea and 5.5 kilometres on land. Commuters can now cover the distance between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai in just 20 minutes, a significant reduction from the usual 2-hour journey.
