Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nitin Nabin will formally assume charge as the party’s new National President on Tuesday. The transition marks an important phase in the BJP’s organisational leadership.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with several senior party leaders, will attend the swearing-in ceremony. Their presence highlights the political and organisational significance of the occasion for the ruling party.
The ceremony will bring together the BJP Chief Ministers, national office-bearers, state unit presidents and members of the national executive.
Through this broad participation, the party aims to demonstrate unity and collective support for the new leadership.
Party leaders have described the development as a key milestone. They believe it will strengthen internal coordination and prepare the organisation for upcoming political challenges.
Nabin secured the top post after the nomination and scrutiny process concluded without competition.
Following the process, the BJP confirmed on Monday that no other candidates remained in the race.
As a result, the party cleared the way for Nabin’s unopposed election as its 12th national president. This outcome reflected a strong organisational consensus.
National Returning Officer K Laxman stated that leaders submitted 37 sets of nomination papers in support of Nabin within the prescribed time.
After scrutiny, officials found all nominations valid.
No candidate withdrew, and no alternative nominations were filed.
Consequently, the election process moved forward without delay.
Momentum for the election increased after the party elected 30 of its 36 state presidents. This comfortably exceeded the 50 per cent requirement set under the BJP Constitution.
The party had issued the official election schedule and published the electoral roll on January 16.
Nitin Nabin, aged 45, has served as the BJP’s National Working President since December 14, 2025.
He has received strong backing from the party’s top leadership, including Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and outgoing BJP President JP Nadda.
Senior leaders and Chief Ministers from several states also proposed his candidature.
As the sole candidate, the party’s electoral college, comprising members of the national and state councils, will formally elect Nabin.
Many within the BJP view his elevation as a step towards balancing leadership continuity with generational renewal.
