Nitin Nabin Takes Over As BJP National President; Becomes Party’s Youngest Chief

Nitin Nabin took charge as the Bharatiya Janata Party’s new National President on Tuesday. The party elected him during its organisational event, Sangathan Parv, at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi.

At 45, Nabin becomes the youngest leader to hold the party’s top organisational post. His elevation marks a clear generational shift within the BJP.

K Laxman, the National Returning Officer for Sangathan Parv, announced the result. He formally declared Nabin elected and handed over the election certificate.

The ceremony drew the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, outgoing BJP National President JP Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari.

Several other senior party leaders also attended the event.

Prime Minister Modi congratulated Nabin on his appointment. Meanwhile, leaders on the dais described his rise as a blend of continuity and renewal.

The event witnessed wide participation from the party.

All Union Ministers, Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states, national office bearers, state unit presidents and members of the national executive attended, signalling strong organisational backing.

Earlier, the BJP had confirmed that Nabin stood as the sole candidate for the post.

The nomination and scrutiny process ended without any contest, paving the way for his unopposed election as the party’s 12th National President.

Before the formal announcement, senior BJP leaders, Chief Ministers and representatives from several states submitted support papers in Nabin’s favour. This step highlighted strong internal consensus and confidence in his leadership.

Nabin has steadily risen through the party ranks since he was appointed National Working President on December 14 last year.

He received open backing from Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Shah and outgoing president JP Nadda.

According to the BJP’s rules, the party’s electoral college conducted the election. This body includes members of the national and state councils.

The rules require candidates to secure proposals from at least 20 electoral college members from a state. They must also complete a minimum of 15 years of party membership, conditions that Nabin fulfilled with ease.

Party leaders see Nabin’s appointment as a strategic move. They believe it injects youthful energy into the organisation while preserving ideological and organisational continuity ahead of future political challenges.
