Nitin Nabin formally took charge as the BJP National President on Tuesday, becoming the youngest leader to hold the position. His election took place during the party’s organisational event, Sangathan Parv, at the headquarters in New Delhi.
Outgoing president JP Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari personally congratulated Nabin on his appointment.
In his inaugural speech, Nitin Nabin said, “Today, above all else, I want to extend my sincere thanks to each of you. You have allowed an everyday worker like me to attain this esteemed position within the party, and I deeply appreciate it. Prime Minister, I want to convey my genuine gratitude to you, as we, the ordinary workers, have consistently watched you working tirelessly, striving for the service of our nation.”
Recalling an event in Anand, Gujarat, during his tenure as National General Secretary, Nabin noted how PM Modi engaged with every participant during the Sadbhavana Mission programme.
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the former national presidents; they have made a tremendous contribution to bringing the party to this point,” he said.
Principles of Political Life
“We are associated with such a political party, where politics is not power, it is spiritual practice, not indulgence, but sacrifice. It is not luxury and comfort, it is austerity. Politics is not a position of authority, it is responsibility,” Nabin added.
“This day is a moment of resolve for me. Today, I am not just assuming a position, but also the ideology, traditions, and the responsibility of a nationalist movement of this party,” he noted.
He also lauded PM Modi’s revocation of Article 370 in Kashmir, noting that it strengthened national unity and allowed the Indian flag to fly across the region. Nabin reinforced the guiding principle of the party: ‘Nation First, Party Next, Self Last’.
The party’s national and state council members elected Nitin Nabin as the sole candidate in accordance with BJP rules. Analysts view his elevation as a move to inject youthful leadership while maintaining organisational stability.
