The National Investigative Agency (NIA) has officially taken over the probe into the deadly blast near the Red Fort Metro Station in Delhi, the Home Ministry announced on Tuesday.
The explosion occurred on Monday evening when a Haryana-registered car parked close to Gate No 1 detonated, leaving at least eight dead and dozens injured.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who reviewed the investigation and multi-state searches, emphasised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s determination to bring the perpetrators to justice. Chairing a high-level meeting with senior security officials, Shah issued strict instructions to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy swiftly.
Officials present included Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Kumar Deka, Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha, and NIA DG Sadanand Vasant Date. Jammu and Kashmir DGP Nalin Prabhat participated virtually.
More than 500 security personnel are now dedicating themselves to the investigation. Authorities have significantly heightened security across Delhi-NCR and deployed NSG commandos to safeguard critical locations.
Authorities are also scanning over 1,000 CCTV footage clips to piece together the chain of events. Investigators believe that someone may have carried out the car explosion as a suicide attack to inflict maximum casualties.
Law enforcement agencies are closely monitoring social media activity and extracting mobile phone data from the vicinity of the Red Fort. Sources indicated that this data could help identify communication links and suspects involved in the bombing.
Shah vowed, ‘We will leave no stone unturned,’ and directed the NIA, IB, and Delhi Police Special Cell to collaborate closely.
High alerts remain in force in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Mumbai, with additional security measures at crowded public spaces and religious sites.
