NIA Arrests MBBS Student From Bengal In Expanding Probe Into Delhi Car Explosion

In a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the recent car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), supported by West Bengal Police, arrested an MBBS student from Dalkhola in North Dinajpur district on Friday.

The accused, identified as Nisar Alam, was a student of Al-Falah University in Faridabad.

State police officials confirmed on Saturday that Alam’s movements were traced through mobile tower surveillance, allowing the NIA to pinpoint his location before conducting the swift arrest.

Although currently settled with his family in Ludhiana, Punjab, Alam had travelled earlier this week to his ancestral home in Dalkhola with his mother and sister to attend a family function. Investigators acted promptly once his location was verified.

After arresting him, officers took Alam to the Islampur Police Station for preliminary questioning. They later moved him to Siliguri for further interrogation. Officials indicated that they will likely bring him to Delhi on transit remand for a detailed investigation.

Residents of Konal village, where the family’s ancestral home stands, expressed shock. Locals described Alam as ‘soft-spoken’ and ‘well-mannered’, saying they had never suspected any association with extremist activities.

Spotlight on Al-Falah University Intensifies

The arrest comes amid heightened scrutiny of Al-Falah University, which has been at the centre of national attention following the explosion that claimed 12 lives and injured dozens. Authorities recently recovered a significant quantity of explosives connected to the case.

Over the past few days, multiple police teams have visited the Faridabad campus, questioning at least 52 doctors as part of a widening investigation.

Officials are actively tracking the whereabouts and activities of Dr Muzammil Shakeel, Dr Shaheen Shahid, and Dr Umar Mohammed, whom they suspect of operating a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) module.

The NIA is now working across state lines to piece together the suspected terror network, with further arrests not ruled out. The probe continues to expand as investigators examine links between the Faridabad campus, recovered explosives, and the deadly blast that shook the national capital this week.
