PM Modi Pays Tribute To Birsa Munda; Unveils Tribal Development Projects In Gujarat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday honoured the 150th birth anniversary of Birsa Munda, the legendary tribal freedom fighter whose legacy continues to resonate across India.

The nation marked the day, observed as Tribal Pride Day, with ceremonies, large-scale development announcements, and cultural celebrations.

In a message on X, the Prime Minister praised Birsa Munda’s ‘unparalleled contribution’ to India’s freedom struggle, recalling his leadership and sacrifice in resisting British rule.

“His struggle and sacrifice against the injustice of foreign rule will continue to inspire every generation,” he wrote, extending ‘hundredfold salutations’ to the revered tribal icon.

Born in 1875 in Ulihatu village, now in Jharkhand, Birsa Munda rose to prominence as a revolutionary leader. He mobilised tribal communities against colonial exploitation.

Fondly known as ‘Dharti Aaba’ or the ‘Father of the Earth’, he remains a symbol of indigenous pride and resilience.

PM to Launch Development Projects Worth Over ₹9,700 Crore

To mark the occasion, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Dediapada in Gujarat. He will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for development projects valued at more than ₹9,700 crore.

The initiatives, jointly funded by the Centre and the state government, aim to bolster infrastructure and improve welfare across tribal regions.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will join the Prime Minister at the event.

Ahead of the ceremony, PM Modi will visit the revered Dev Mogra Dham, an important spiritual site for tribal communities across the Satpuda region.

He will offer prayers before proceeding to the venue. Tribal artists from Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra will greet him there with traditional performances.

A significant portion of the announcements includes ₹7,667 crore in projects under the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs. These are complemented by ₹2,112 crore in state-level initiatives. Officials expect these undertakings to drive socio-economic development across Gujarat’s tribal districts.

At Ekta Nagar, celebrations will continue with a special theatrical presentation showcasing Birsa Munda’s life and legacy. The organisers will live-stream the programme across 23 tribal talukas in the state, ensuring widespread participation in the commemorative event.
