NIA And J&K Police Conduct Searches In Handwara, Srinagar In Major Drug And UAPA Cases

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches in Handwara, Jammu and Kashmir, on Saturday as part of an ongoing investigation into a major drug racket. NIA officers, along with police and CRPF personnel, carried out the raids in connection with a high-profile multi-million drug case.

At the same time, J&K Police raided several locations in Srinagar city under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The searches targeted individuals allegedly involved in spreading false and provocative narratives to incite violence.

Police obtained warrants from a designated court to raid the homes of Obais Riyaz Dar from Batmaloo and Sahil Ahmad Bhat from HMT, Zainakot. During the raids, authorities seized electronic devices and incriminating materials. The police stated that more properties linked to suspects involved in seditious propaganda are under investigation.

Authorities warned the public to be cautious while using social media to avoid sharing false information. They linked recent attempts to spread malicious propaganda to terrorist groups and their sympathizers across the border, aiming to disrupt peace in the region after the peaceful Lok Sabha and Assembly polls.
