NewsClick In Trouble! 255 Renowned Personalities Write Letter To President And CJI Calling For Strong Action Against News Organization

255 eminent personalities of India have signed a letter against NewsClick, written to the President of India, Draupadi Murmu, and Chief Justice Of India, DY Chandrachud to call for a strong action against the news organisation. The complainants are agitated over the misinformation that is being spread by the news organization. The letter was posted under the subject, “Call for decisive action against NewsClick”. The list of signatories includes people of top officials from different positions in the nation. It includes 14 judges, 112 bureaucrats, and 129 Armed Forces Officers.

For those who don’t know, Newsclick is a cutting-edge news website that features articles, videos, and infographics. Contributions from viewers and well-wishers help to fund Newsclick. It collaborates with a number of forward-thinking websites in India and other nations.

Key pointers from the letter against NewsClick

The letter mentions the points due to which, the aggrieved are worried. The first point of tension was wide leverage given “to all kinds of inimical forces under the garb of ‘free press’.”

The second reason of concern was that “Indian taxpayers, are being manipulated by fake news and subterfuge manufactured in China. The fact that a website based in India is actively working for China makes us concerned, distressed, and angry.”

The third and the most disappointing takeaway as per the letter was, “the undermining of the Indian democratic fabric. The so called ‘free press’ covertly funded by China has had a field day challenging our democracy.”

Money laundering case against Chief of NewsClick

The letter mentioned the money laundering case against the Editor in Chief of NewsClick. The letter said, “Factually, in early 2021, the Enforcement Directorate had raided NewsClick founder and Editor-in-Chief Prabir Purkayastha in connection with a money laundering case pertaining to foreign funding to the tune of about Rs 76.9 crore between 2018 and 2021.
