Amid the massive controversy surrounding the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), authorities have accessed the scorecards of four students from Bihar who allegedly obtained the question paper before the exam. Two of these scorecards reveal quite a story.
Anurag Yadav, one of the four individuals arrested in connection with the alleged paper leak, confessed to the police that he was preparing for the medical entrance test in Kota, a renowned coaching hub. His uncle, Sikandar Yadavendu—also arrested—asked him to return to Samastipur, assuring him that the exam was “sorted.” Anurag stated that he received some questions and their answers the night before the exam, which indeed appeared in the actual test the next day.
Anurag’s scorecard, issued by the National Testing Agency, shows that he scored 185 out of 720 marks, with a total percentile score of 54.84. However, his individual subject scores raise suspicions. He scored 85.8 percentile in Physics and 51 percentile in Biology, but a mere 5 percentile in Chemistry. This discrepancy suggests he did not have enough time to memorize the chemistry answers. Anurag’s all-India rank is 10,51,525, and his category rank as an OBC candidate is 4,67,824.

Sikandar Yadavendu informed the police that he connected four students with Amit Anand and Nitish Kumar—both also arrested—for obtaining the question papers. Amit and Nitish allegedly charged ₹30-32 lakh per student. Sikandar, driven by greed, told each student they needed to pay ₹40 lakh for the paper.
While Anurag has been arrested, the other three students have been questioned. All three are from the OBC category. One of them scored 300 out of 720, with a percentile of 73.37. However, the individual scores again raise doubts: the student scored 87.8 percentile in Biology but only 15.5 and 15.3 percentiles in Physics and Chemistry, respectively.
In contrast, the scorecards of the other two students indicate a more balanced performance across all three subjects. One scored 581 out of 720, and the other 483.
Since the NEET results were declared on June 4, numerous irregularities have surfaced. Notably, 67 students scored a perfect 720/720, with six of them from the same center in Haryana. This high cutoff has left many aspirants anxious about securing a medical college seat. The situation has sparked nationwide protests, with students demanding a retest.
