NCR Faces Intense Heatwave Before Weather Change Brings Thunderstorms & Rain

The National Capital Region (NCR) endured a hot and sultry Wednesday, with temperatures climbing to uncomfortable levels and a heatwave persisting throughout the day.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported the maximum temperature reaching 39 degrees Celsius, while the minimum hovered around 27 degrees Celsius.

Although the IMD did not issue any immediate weather warnings for Wednesday, it has forecast a notable shift starting 29 May.

Residents should prepare for strong winds, thunderstorms, and rainfall likely to affect the area.

Officials have declared a Yellow Alert for Thursday, warning of gusty winds between 30 and 40 km/h, accompanied by lightning and thunderstorm activity.

The alert advises caution, urging people to avoid open spaces during these weather conditions.

These stormy weather patterns are likely to continue through 30 and 31 May, with intermittent thunderstorms and rain likely.

Temperatures are likely to drop slightly, with highs near 36 degrees Celsius and lows around 25 to 26 degrees Celsius.

Though no formal warning is in place for 31 May, thunderstorms will likely persist.

Brief Stabilisation Followed By Rain Early June

By 1 June, weather conditions may stabilise briefly, with partly cloudy skies and temperatures rising to about 37 degrees Celsius.

However, from 2 and 3 June, the NCR is likely to see overcast skies again with chances of rainfall and thunderstorms.

Humidity levels in the NCR have risen, with morning humidity reaching as high as 75 per cent, adding to the discomfort during peak heat hours.

Meteorologists attribute these changes to a combination of western disturbances and moisture flowing in from the Bay of Bengal, which will influence the region’s weather for the coming days.

Authorities have urged residents to heed weather warnings seriously.

Due to the possibility of lightning and strong winds, people are advised to stay indoors during storms, limit the use of electrical appliances, and stay hydrated to manage the heat and humidity effectively.
