The National Conference and the Peoples Democratic Party have voiced their opposition to the prosecution sanction against author Arundhati Roy and a former professor from Kashmir under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for allegedly delivering provocative speeches at an event in Delhi in 2010.
Officials report that the First Information Report (FIR) against Roy and former Central University of Kashmir professor Sheikh Showkat Hussain was filed in compliance with orders from the Court of Metropolitan Magistrate, New Delhi.

The National Conference (NC), expressing disapproval of the decision, emphasized the importance of protecting the fundamental right to free speech for every citizen, as enshrined in Article 19 of the Indian Constitution.
