On Sunday, President Droupadi Murmu will formally commence the 16th National Voters’ Day (NVD-2026) celebrations in New Delhi. She will mark the occasion by distributing Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) to newly registered young voters.
This year’s National Voters’ Day is centred on the theme ‘My India, My Vote’. It is accompanied by the tagline ‘Citizen at the Heart of Indian Democracy’, which highlights the importance of every voter in sustaining democratic values.
President Murmu will chair the event as the Chief Guest. Union Minister of State for Law and Justice (Independent Charge) Arjun Ram Meghwal will attend the function as the Guest of Honour.
The programme will be overseen by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He will be joined by Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, according to a statement issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Moreover, the participation of senior officials reflects the institutional commitment to strengthening electoral systems and promoting inclusive democracy.
Honouring Excellence in Electoral Management
As part of the celebrations, the President will present the Best Electoral Practices Awards. The awards will recognise exemplary efforts in election administration.
Awards will be given across several categories. These include innovative use of technology, efficient election management and logistics, voter education initiatives, enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, and training and capacity-building programmes.
Additional honours will acknowledge notable contributions, including those made by media organisations in enhancing voter awareness.
Two important publications will be unveiled during the event. The first, ‘2025: A Year of Initiatives and Innovations’, outlines the ECI’s recent advancements and reform-driven initiatives. The second, ‘Chunav Ka Parv, Bihar Ka Garv’, documents the successful organisation of the General Elections in Bihar.
An exhibition showcasing key aspects of elections—including electoral roll preparation and poll conduct—will be organised alongside the main programme. It will also feature recent voter-focused initiatives and highlight the effective management of the 2025 Bihar Legislative Assembly elections.
National Voters’ Day is being observed simultaneously across the country at the state and district levels. The celebrations are being conducted through the offices of Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) and District Election Officers (DEOs).
At the grassroots level, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are organising events at polling stations. During these events, newly enrolled voters are being felicitated and issued their EPIC cards.
