Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday extended greetings to citizens and scientists on National Space Day, highlighting India’s growing presence in the global space sector and praising the country’s young innovators.
Sharing a video featuring excerpts from his speeches, PM Modi said India was steadily expanding its role in the global space order. He described the development as part of a new cycle of change and said the space sector would play a vital role in India’s ambition to become a developed nation by 2047.
Praising Gen Z, the Prime Minister said young engineers, designers, coders and scientists were developing advanced technologies across areas such as propulsion systems, composite materials, rocket stages and satellite platforms. He said Indian youth were now working in fields that were difficult to imagine a few years ago.
PM Modi highlighted the growing contribution of India’s private space sector, saying Indian space companies were establishing a global identity and attracting international investment. He further added that the success of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) was inspiring a new generation of scientists, with many children now aspiring to pursue careers in space science.

India marks National Space Day on 23 August to celebrate Chandrayaan-3’s 2023 Moon landing.
The 2026 theme focuses on innovation, collaboration and global space leadership.
ISRO Chairman and Secretary of the Department of Space Dr V Narayanan called for greater innovation, collaboration and ambition. He stressed the need to push scientific and technological boundaries while building stronger partnerships to further strengthen India’s space capabilities.
