Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said India’s growing presence in the global space sector, particularly the rise of its private space industry, has made the country a ‘magnet’ for global investors.
Sharing excerpts from his speeches on National Space Day, PM Modi said India was steadily strengthening its position in the global space order. He said the country’s progress in space technology would play an important role in its ambition to become a developed nation by 2047.
The Prime Minister praised India’s private space companies and young innovators for creating a strong identity for the country in the global space ecosystem. He further highlighted the contribution of Gen Z engineers, designers, coders and scientists who are developing technologies across areas such as propulsion systems, composite materials, rocket stages and satellite platforms.
PM Modi said India’s young talent was working in fields that were difficult to imagine a few years ago, reflecting the rapid transformation of the country’s space industry. He further credited ISRO with inspiring the next generation of scientists.
According to PM Modi, the organisation’s achievements have encouraged children across the country to dream of becoming scientists and contributing to India’s space programme.
National Space Day, observed on August 23, marks Chandrayaan-3’s successful soft landing near the Moon’s south polar region in 2023.
India became the first country to achieve the feat, marking a major milestone in its space programme.
The 2026 theme, ‘Towards Viksit Bharat: Innovating, Collaborating and Aspiring to Global Space Leadership’, highlights India’s focus on innovation and global leadership.
ISRO Chairman Dr V Narayanan urged greater innovation and collaboration to strengthen India’s space ecosystem.
The growing private space sector and young talent continue to drive India’s space ambitions.
