President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and a host of dignitaries gathered at Rajghat on Wednesday to honor Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of his 155th birth anniversary.
This day is recognized not only in India but globally, celebrating Gandhi’s enduring legacy of non-violence and truth.
In a heartfelt tribute shared on social media, President Murmu emphasized Gandhi’s unique message for humanity, stating, “He inspired us to follow the path of peace and cooperation. Gandhiji took up the missions to eradicate untouchability, illiteracy, lack of sanitation and other social evils, and championed the cause of women empowerment relentlessly.”
She highlighted Gandhi’s dedication to social causes, including the eradication of untouchability, illiteracy, and poor sanitation, as well as his relentless advocacy for women’s empowerment.
“Gandhiji epitomized eternal moral principles and preached for ethics-based conduct. His struggle was centered around strengthening the weakest and the most vulnerable,” she added.
The President encouraged everyone to embrace the values of truth, non-violence, love, and purity, urging a collective effort towards the development envisioned by Gandhi.
Prime Minister Modi also paid homage with floral tributes at Rajghat, expressing his respect in a post on X.
He remarked, “On behalf of all countrymen, salutations to Pujya Bapu on his birth anniversary. His life and ideals based on truth, harmony and equality will always remain an inspiration for the countrymen.”
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also joined the tributes at Rajghat, acknowledging Gandhi as a seeker of truth and peace.
“Tribute to the seeker of truth, apostle of non-violence and peace, Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary. His entire life is a message of loyalty and dedication towards the nation. The ideals of revered Gandhiji inspire us to continuously work for the overall progress of the nation and society,” he noted in a statement on X.
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi also took to social media, reflecting on Gandhi’s teachings.
He expressed gratitude for the lessons of fearlessness and compassion, stating, “Bapu has taught me that if we want to live, we have to live without fear – we have to walk on the path of truth, love, compassion and harmony, connecting everyone.”
He further remarked that Gandhi symbolizes a way of life and thought, dedicating his heartfelt salutes to the Father of the Nation.
As the nation reflects on Gandhi’s profound impact, the spirit of his teachings continues to inspire generations in their pursuit of justice and peace.
