Muslim Rashtriya Manch’s Waqf Book: A Catalyst For Awareness, Says JPC Chairman

The launch of ‘Waqf Bill 2024: Respect for Islam and Gift for Muslims’, a new book by the Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM), has sparked widespread discussions across the country, extending beyond Delhi.

On Tuesday, Jagdambika Pal, Chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) and senior Member of Parliament, hosted a special release event at his residence, with prominent figures from various fields in attendance.

Referring to the book as an ‘eye-opening document’, Pal highlighted its significance, not just for the Muslim community but for all sections of society.

Pal stated, “This book provides a solid and practical roadmap to ensure transparency in the management of Waqf properties and their use for the broader welfare of society.”

He expressed confidence that the book could raise awareness within both the government and the public regarding the effective management and utilization of Waqf assets.

“This initiative is the need of the hour to promote education, healthcare, and employment opportunities through Waqf properties, allowing them to play a crucial role in uplifting the Muslim community,” Pal further asserted.

He further added that the insights provided in the book are being seriously considered for inclusion in the JPC’s final report, which seeks to offer a balanced perspective on the issue.

He commended the authors – Dr. Shahid Akhtar, Dr. Shalini Ali, Advocate Shiraz Qureshi, and senior journalist Shahid Sayeed – for their contributions, acknowledging that their work provides a strong foundation for improving Waqf property management in India.

Pal also referred to the book as an ’emerging historic document’, one that would serve as a valuable guide not just for Muslims but for all of Indian society.

He expressed hope that the book would drive awareness, equality, and improvements in Waqf property management, benefiting broader social welfare.

National Commission for Minorities Chairman Calls it a ‘Historic Step’

Iqbal Singh Lalpura, Chairman of the National Commission for Minorities, praised the book as a ‘historic step’ for both the Muslim community and the nation as a whole.

He explained that the book highlights the true state of Waqf property management and stresses the urgent need for transparency, an issue that has long remained hidden from public view.

“This book is essential for all Indian citizens who want to understand how Waqf properties can be effectively utilized,” Lalpura added.

He highlighted that the book demonstrates how, with proper management, Waqf properties could become a valuable asset for education, healthcare, and social welfare.

Lalpura regarded it as an awareness initiative that would motivate not only the Muslim community but also other minority groups.

Ram Lal Stresses Collective Responsibility Over Waqf Assets

Senior RSS leader Ram Lal echoed Lalpura’s sentiments, describing the book as ‘the need of the hour’ for fostering awareness and self-reliance within the Muslim community.

“The idea of clean and transparent management of Waqf properties could benefit not only the Muslim community but the entire nation,” Ram Lal stated.

He pointed out that the initiative would encourage the Muslim community to harness Waqf properties for the welfare of various sections of society.

Ram Lal further emphasized that Waqf properties should not seen as private assets of a single community but rather as a collective responsibility and legacy for all.

“It provides a platform where the Muslim community can become aware not only of their resources but also of their rights and responsibilities,” he said.

Ram Lal remarked that this initiative has the potential to be a turning point in improving Waqf property management and utilizing these assets for the betterment of society.

Both Lalpura and Ram Lal recognized the book as a crucial step toward fostering social unity and harmony, believing that it could inspire other communities to adopt similar approaches. They hailed it as a symbol of self-reliance and awareness for the Muslim community, and a dedicated effort to contribute to nation-building.
