On Tuesday, Jammu & Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha stated that any discussions on restoring Article 370 in the region are irrelevant, as the Supreme Court has upheld its abrogation as constitutional.
He discussed the situation in Jammu and Kashmir following the revocation of Article 370. He highlighted that, in the aftermath, assembly elections conducted smoothly and peacefully, drawing attention from both national and international observers.
Sinha stated, “A democratic government has taken oath there and I am confident it will work towards overall development of J&K.”
Supreme Court Ruling & End Of Reinstatement Debates
Manoj Sinha further asserted that, with the Supreme Court affirming the constitutionality of the abrogation, further debates about reinstating the provision are no longer valid.
The Lieutenant Governor also highlighted the significant strides made under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, particularly in the railway sector.
“Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi the nation has made tremendous development, particularly in the railway sector. This has created jobs for the youth and improved transportation facilities, contributing significantly to the country’s growth,” Sinha added.
The Lieutenant Governor also inaugurated a new officers’ rest house and community center built by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL).
Manoj Sinha further added, “During his visits, the Prime Minister had no suitable place to rest in this region if needed. Today, RVNL has fulfilled that need by building these facilities.”
Reflecting on his tenure as Minister of State for Railways, Sinha shared a personal experience, recalling a journalist from Bengaluru who had praised the cleanliness of public restrooms in Ghazipur.
“A journalist from Bengaluru once visited and required a restroom. She was directed to a toilet outside the Women’s Degree College in Ghazipur. Later, she wrote that such clean toilets were not even available in Bengaluru. RVNL has constructed similarly excellent facilities here,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
On the status of the Mau-Ghazipur railway line project, Sinha updated that although the project had faced delays due to land disputes with local landowners, it was now back on track after Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw allocated funds for its completion.
“Railway Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw has allocated funds for this project in the budget. However, legal disputes filed by landowners often delay railway projects,” Sinha concluded.
