India scheduled a home series against Bangladesh in December featuring three ODIs and three T20Is. Intensifying political tensions in Bangladesh are likely to force its postponement.
The series, slotted into the ICC Future Tours Programme, lacked confirmed dates and venues. Recent developments pushed this uncertainty into a formal rescheduling phase.
The situation escalated after a Bangladeshi tribunal court sentenced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to death on Monday.
Her presence in India has strained bilateral relations. It has amplified Dhaka’s demands for her return and created an environment unsuitable for international sporting engagements.
These tensions have influenced cricketing decisions, with administrative communication between the BCCI and BCB reflecting a cautious approach.
ESPNcricinfo reported that the BCCI informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board in a letter that it would shift the white-ball series to a later date.
While the BCCI did not cite a direct reason, officials believe the political volatility and delicate diplomatic climate have driven the postponement.
The series held strategic importance for India. The team planned this series as its final international assignment before the 2026 Women’s Premier League.
It also served as their first set of ODI Championship matches after their triumphant World Cup campaign.
Officials shortlisted Kolkata and Cuttack as host venues. The ODIs were set to launch the next cycle of the Women’s ODI Championship for both sides.
This development mirrors an earlier shift this year. The BCCI pushed the Indian men’s white-ball tour of Bangladesh from August 2025 to September 2026.
The BCCI framed the decision as a mutually agreed adjustment. It said the change accounted for international calendar pressures and logistical convenience.
Discussions between the two boards regarding the women’s series now mirror that same diplomatic tone.
The boards will finalise fresh dates once the political climate stabilises.
For now, both teams must adapt their preparation plans as a crucial pre-WPL international window closes unexpectedly.
