Monsoon Session Kicks Off With Uproar Over 'Op Sindoor' & Pahalgam Attack

The Monsoon Session began on a stormy note, with the government and the Opposition clashing over demands for a debate on Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam attack.

The Opposition questioned the government over the Pahalgam security lapse, while the ruling side agreed to a debate if norms were followed.

Chaos in Lok Sabha Forces Early Adjournment

The Lok Sabha witnessed noisy scenes minutes after the session opened.

Opposition MPs disrupted Question Hour, demanding a debate on the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 people.

Despite repeated appeals from Speaker Om Birla to restore order, the uproar continued, forcing the House to adjourn just 20 minutes into the session.

Rajya Sabha Debates Trump’s Mediation Claim

In Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge sought a debate on Donald Trump’s claims of mediating India-Pakistan peace.

While Kharge stressed that the Opposition did not want to politicise the Indian military’s actions, he underlined the need for accountability over security matters.

Leader of the House JP Nadda responded by asserting that the government was open to debating any issue, but only within the framework of established House conventions.

PM Modi Sets Tone with Call for National Pride

Before the session, PM Modi called it a ‘session of celebration’ and urged unity in celebrating India’s achievements. He praised Operation Sindoor and astronaut Subhanshu Shukla’s ISS milestone as symbols of national strength.

Earlier, Congress sought urgent debate on the Pahalgam attack and Bihar’s voter roll revision.

The party blamed the government for failing to prevent the attack and allegedly tampering with voter rolls before key state elections.

The Congress-led Opposition has consistently demanded answers from the Modi government on both matters, intensifying pressure as the session unfolds.

With the Monsoon Session now underway, sharp political differences over national security and electoral integrity have already sparked early disruptions. As both Houses gear up for further debate, the battle lines between the government and the Opposition appear firmly drawn.
