Parliament’s monsoon session, which began on 21 July, is set to conclude on Thursday after nearly a month of proceedings. Both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will meet at 11 AM for the final sitting.
Opposition members staged protests that marked the session with repeated adjournments.
Their central demand was for a debate on the revision of the voter list in Bihar ahead of state elections.
Opposition parties have accused the Election Commission of India and the ruling BJP of colluding to tamper with the rolls.
On Wednesday, despite strong protests, the Lok Sabha passed the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025.
The legislation seeks to oversee the online gaming sector, including e-sports, educational and social games, while placing tighter rules on platforms offering real-money games such as poker.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also introduced several major bills during the session, one of which proposes the disqualification of elected representatives facing arrest or detention on serious criminal charges.
The draft law would apply to the Prime Minister, Union ministers, Chief Ministers and ministers in Union Territories.
Shah moved three key pieces of legislation:
The proposals require any Prime Minister, minister, or Chief Minister arrested and held in custody for 30 consecutive days in connection with offences carrying a minimum sentence of five years to resign on the 31st day.
Failure to do so would result in automatic removal from office.
Parliament has referred the legislation to a Joint Parliamentary Committee, which will present its findings on the first day of the next session.
Shah said the panel would give the Opposition a full opportunity to raise objections and present its case.
