One such astonishing case has emerged from Motilal Nehru Medical College in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Doctors were left astounded when they encountered a rare medical occurrence that is scarcely witnessed. It can be termed as one of the rarest of the rare cases.
Removed 2-kilogram fetus after surgery
In this incident, doctors performed surgery on a 7-month-old baby’s abdomen and removed a 2-kilogram fetus. Surprisingly, the baby’s parents were unaware of this presence in their child’s belly. The foetus had begun to grow inside the baby’s abdomen and continued to develop until it was born.
200 such cases have been reported
The surgery was conducted at the Motilal Nehru Medical College, and the team of doctors who performed it said that such cases are very rare and are referred to as “foetus in foetu.” This means a foetus inside a foetus. Around 200 such cases have been reported worldwide till now.
The baby’s father hails from Pratapgarh district’s Kunda and works as a tailor. The doctors who operated on the baby shared that the 7-month-old infant is completely healthy. According to them, this unique phenomenon begins when the fetus is in its initial stages of development inside the mother’s womb. During this time, the baby’s abdomen hosts another fetus that starts growing.
In scientific terms, when two sperms fertilize two eggs, it results in the formation of one zygote. This is where the process begins.
Baby’s condition
After the operation, the baby is in stable condition. However, the mother passed away seven months ago when she gave birth to the baby.
