New Delhi, Aug 29: Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind President Maulana Arshad Madani has pledged to continue the legal fight until the innocent accused in the Haldwani violence case are fully exonerated. His statement came after the Uttarakhand High Court granted bail to 50 accused, including six women, who had been detained for nearly seven months.
Criticism of Legal Delays
Maulana Madani welcomed the release but criticized the delays by the police and investigative agencies in filing charge sheets. He expressed concern that these delays are intentional, aimed at keeping the accused behind bars longer. He noted that while the law requires a charge sheet to be presented within 90 days, this provision is often ignored. In this case, the Uttarakhand Police sought and received an extension of 28 days from the lower court, further delaying justice.
Jamiat’s Role in Securing Bail
Maulana Madani highlighted the role of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind in providing legal aid that led to the High Court granting bail to the accused. However, he questioned the ongoing bias and discrimination by law enforcement agencies, calling it a blatant violation of human rights. He emphasized that Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind will continue to raise its voice against such injustices, urging accountability for police and investigative agencies.
