A massive fire erupted at two chemical factories in the Boisar-Tarapur MIDC area of Palghar district, Maharashtra, on Sunday evening. The fire, which began at UK Aromatic and Chemicals on Navapur Road, quickly spread to the adjacent Shree Chemicals factory, officials confirmed.
Palghar Superintendent of Police Balasaheb Patil reported that the fire started around 5:20 pm. Strong winds fueled its rapid spread, engulfing both a chemical and a textile unit. Workers managed to evacuate the premises, averting a major disaster.
Several fire engines and water tankers were dispatched to the scene, battling the flames for nearly five hours before bringing the situation under control. “The fire is under control. No injuries are reported,” a fire official stated at 11 pm.
The Palghar fire control room further received the first alert at 6:20 p.m., prompting an immediate response. Visuals showed thick black smoke billowing from the burning factories. While the exact cause of the blaze remains unknown, investigations are underway.
Shortly after midnight, a fire broke out on a hill slope in Goregaon (East), Mumbai. The fire, which began at 12:14 am, spread across a 1.5-km stretch of dry leaves, shrubs, and trees behind IT Park.

On Sunday morning, a separate fire broke out at the Heera Panna Shopping Centre near Haji Ali in Mumbai. The incident, reported at 9:09 a.m., was confined to two closed shops on the ground floor of the commercial complex.
Emergency responders acted quickly, using one small hose line and two high-pressure first aid lines connected to four motor pumps to extinguish the flames. Thick smoke filled the shopping centre’s ground floor, but no injuries were reported.
The sequence of fires across Mumbai and Palghar highlights the need for stringent fire safety measures in industrial and commercial zones. Officials further continue to investigate the causes of these incidents, urging residents and business owners to prioritize fire prevention and preparedness.
