Massive Display of Light: One Lakh Diyas Illuminate Guwahati to Welcome PM Modi in Assam

The PM is set to visit the Kamakhya temple on Sunday morning, followed by a public address at 11:30 am at the Veterinary College Playground in Guwahati, as per the Chief Minister’s office.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Assam on a two-day visit, where he is scheduled to inaugurate and lay the foundation for projects amounting to ₹11,600 crore. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, along with Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, and others, welcomed the PM at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport around 6:30 pm on Saturday.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led state witnessed a grand reception for Modi, with thousands of people lighting one lakh diyas at Khanapara in Guwahati. The welcoming ceremony also featured local artists performing the traditional Bihu dance.

Sharing the joyous moment on social media, Chief Minister Sarma expressed gratitude, saying, “Thousands assemble in Khanapara to illuminate 1,00,000 diyas, welcoming and celebrating the arrival of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji in Assam. The joyous celebration captures the spirit of #PMModiInAssam with splendid visuals.”

Upon reaching Assam, PM Modi also took to social media, writing, “After programs in Odisha, landed to a very warm welcome in Assam. Thankful to the people of Guwahati for the affection.”

The Chief Minister’s office disclosed that on Sunday morning, the PM is scheduled to visit the Kamakhya temple. Later in the day, at 11:30 am, Modi will address the public at the Veterinary College Playground in Guwahati, unveiling numerous state and central projects.
