The holy month of Sawan is being celebrated across the nation with deep devotion and culturally vibrant rituals. This auspicious month is particularly revered by devotees of Lord Shiva.

However, with the onset of the Kanwar Yatra, markets are experiencing a sharp increase in demand for religious items.

With the increasing number of Kanwariyas, the demand for Kanwars, decorative items, rudraksha beads, tridents (trishuls), damrus, and Kanwariya outfits has also surged.

The markets in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, are buzzing, as vendors report a notable rise in sales.

A local female vendor, while arranging her stall, joyfully recounted her experience, “Business is good this time. The demand for items is very high. Since the Kanwar Yatra began, the crowd has increased. The ghats built by PM Modi and CM Yogi are unmatched; no leader has ever built such facilities.”

Kanwar Yatra: Enhanced Security Measures for Devotee Safety

Considering the rise in numbers, the Uttar Pradesh police have intensified security to manage the crowd and ensure public safety.

According to guidelines issued by Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Krishna, deployments include 587 gazetted officers, 2,040 Inspectors, 13,520 Sub-Inspectors, 39,965 Head Constables and Constables, 1,486 women Sub-Inspectors, and 8,541 women constables and Head Constables.

Authorities have also made special arrangements for 24/7 patrolling, actively mobilising UP-112 vehicles.

As per the safety guidelines for the Kanwar Yatra, devotees must walk on the left side of highways, and rest and food camps should be positioned at least 20 feet away from the roads.

Additionally, authorities have introduced enhanced safety measures for women Kanwariyas and have warned against reckless driving and overspeeding.

In order to safeguard public health and ensure fairness, food quality inspections are underway.

Meanwhile, in Delhi, the Kanwar Yatra is in full swing. Devotees from Rajasthan and other states have started coming to Delhi, carrying the sanctified waters of the Ganga from Haridwar and Braj Ghat.

The air is filled with a deep sense of devotion, and ‘Bol Bam’ chants echo in the atmosphere.

Delhi Police have deployed more than 3,000 police personnel and paramilitary forces along the Kanwar routes to ensure smooth passage and safety.

Moreover, concentrated efforts are being directed towards cleanliness and law enforcement.

Whenever garbage is spotted, police capture images and immediately notify the municipal authorities for prompt cleanup.

In addition, the Delhi government has installed welcome gates along the route to greet Kanwariyas and offer essential support.

These gates will offer water, medical aid, and resting facilities.
