Mann Ki Baat: PM Modi Highlights India’s 4 Medals At Global Cheese Event

During his monthly programme Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi drew attention to India’s performance at an international cheese competition held in Brazil, where the country secured four medals, including a top honour.

India participated for the first time at the Mundial do Queijo do Brasil 2026 in São Paulo, competing against entries from more than 30 countries.

The event, judged by hundreds of experts, marked India’s entry into the global artisanal cheese arena.

The Prime Minister noted that the achievement reflects the growing strength of India’s dairy sector, particularly the role of traditional practices and local innovation. He specifically mentioned contributions from high-altitude regions such as Ladakh, where yak-based dairy products are produced.

Following the mention, Thenlay Nurboo, a yak herder involved in the effort, expressed appreciation for the recognition. He said the acknowledgement has brought attention to the work of yak herders and dairy producers in the region.

Nurboo also credited institutions such as the National Dairy Development Board and local government departments for supporting the initiative. He noted that the achievement was the result of coordinated efforts and sustained hard work.

The recognition will likely encourage producers in remote areas and promote traditional cheese-making methods, particularly those based on yak milk.

Observers say such visibility could help expand market opportunities and increase awareness of indigenous dairy products at both national and international levels.
