Prime Minister Narendra Modi has applauded the spirit of ‘janbhagidari’ (people’s participation), stating that the overwhelming public response to his appeals during the global energy crisis reflects India’s collective strength and commitment to nation-building.
Speaking during the 135th episode of his monthly radio programme, Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister said that when citizens unite with a shared purpose, no challenge is too great to overcome. He described public participation as one of India’s greatest strengths and credited it with helping the country navigate difficult global circumstances.
Referring to the ongoing tensions in West Asia, PM Modi recalled urging people to postpone non-essential gold purchases, avoid unnecessary foreign holidays, adopt carpooling, and encourage chemical-free farming through the increased use of organic fertilisers. He thanked citizens across the country for not only supporting these appeals but also actively putting them into practice.
PM Modi said many families postponed gold purchases for weddings by recycling existing jewellery, while others deferred overseas holidays. He also noted growing adoption of car pooling and increased use of buses and metro services to save fuel.
PM Modi said increased carpooling and greater use of public transport have helped reduce fuel consumption. He also noted that more farmers are adopting organic fertilisers and chemical-free farming. Expressing confidence in the nation’s unity, he said India is tackling the global crisis through collective public participation.
The Prime Minister added that the continued strength of ‘janbhagidari’ would further reinforce the country’s resilience and help India emerge stronger in the face of future challenges.
