In order to evade consequences for skipping classes, three schoolgirls prompted heightened vigilance within the Manipur administration. They cooked up a story involving the supposed kidnapping of 20 school students that raised high concerns.
Hailing from Nambol town on the outskirts of the state capital Imphal, the girls opted to skip school today. Fearing potential rebuke, they claimed that a group of masked individuals had abducted them along with 19 other students while they were en route to school. According to sources in the police department, the girls informed law enforcement officers that the abductors lured them with the promise of a picnic and beckoned them to enter a van. Donning masks, the alleged kidnappers were described as two individuals. The girls asserted that their suspicion was aroused, leading them to leap from the moving vehicle shortly after being taken aboard.
This account triggered a state of alertness within the Manipur administration, particularly given the ongoing unrest in the Northeastern state, which has resulted in around 170 fatalities during the past couple of months. The timing of this incident, on the eve of a special Assembly session, intensified the tensions.

However, during the course of police interrogation, discrepancies emerged in the statements provided by the schoolgirls. A comprehensive inquiry was conducted, ultimately revealing that the entire tale had been fabricated as a means to justify their truancy. The police sources have disclosed that the children will be reunited with their parents in light of these findings.
