Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Tuesday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and sought sustained support for restoring peace and communal harmony in the state.
An official from the Chief Minister’s Office in Imphal confirmed that the Chief Minister, accompanied by Deputy Chief Ministers Nemcha Kipgen and Losii Dikho, met the Prime Minister at his office in the national capital.
This marked Khemchand Singh’s first formal interaction with the Indian Premier since assuming office on February 4.
The Chief Minister apprised the Prime Minister of India about measures initiated by the new administration to stabilise the situation across Manipur.
He outlined steps aimed at rebuilding trust between communities and strengthening governance structures.
Yumnam also urged the Union government to prioritise women’s empowerment programmes in both the hill and valley regions.
Yumnam Khemchand emphasised inclusive growth and gender-focused welfare schemes.
Outreach In Capital
During the meeting, the state leadership formally invited the Prime Minister to visit Manipur. Khemchand Singh has remained in New Delhi since February 21 on his first official visit after taking oath.
He held consultations with several Union Ministers and senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party to advance development and welfare initiatives.
On Monday night, the Chief Minister met Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
The Minister approved construction of 5,000 houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin for rehabilitation of internally displaced persons affected by ethnic unrest.
The Chief Minister also met DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who assured inter-ministerial coordination to address key concerns.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman pledged assistance to revive the state’s fiscal health. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh promised full cooperation for Manipur’s initiatives.
Earlier, on February 22, Khemchand Singh met Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss rehabilitation and removal of inter-community barriers.
The series of high-level engagements underscores the state government’s effort to secure coordinated central backing for peace restoration and long-term stability.
