A 24-year-old man has been apprehended by the Pune police for allegedly issuing death threats against Chhagan Bhujbal, an NCP leader and Maharashtra minister who recently joined the Eknath Shinde-led cabinet, according to an official statement on Tuesday.
The accused reportedly made a phone call to Bhujbal’s personal assistant (PA) on Monday night, claiming that he had been assigned the contract to kill Bhujbal. The police official confirmed that Bhujbal’s PA filed a complaint regarding the incident.
“An offence has been registered against the individual, and during the investigation, his location was traced to Mahad in the neighbouring Raigad district,” stated the official.
The Pune Crime Branch has detained the suspect in Mahad, and he is being transported to Pune for further investigation, the official added.
On July 2, Bhujbal, along with eight other NCP MLAs, including Ajit Pawar, joined the Shinde-BJP government. Pawar was sworn in as the deputy chief minister, while Bhujbal and the others took oath as cabinet ministers.
A similar incident occurred in Gorakhpur on Sunday night where a 45-year-old man allegedly made a threat call on the UP-112 helpline where he threatened to kill Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP CM Yogi Adityanath. The police tracked his location and detained him on Monday morning. The accused identified as Sanjay Kumar was under the influence of alcohol when he made the call. Currently, the officials are questioning Kumar to draw out more details about the incident.
