West Bengal Police arrested a man in connection with a rape threat against Abhishek Banerjee’s daughter. The arrest occurred on Tuesday morning.
The suspect, Masadul Molla, lives in Mothbari, Minakhan block, North 24 Paraganas district. Police apprehended him early in the morning. The arrest follows the emergence of a video showing a person making threats during a protest rally. The rally was held on August 25 to protest the rape and murder of a woman doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College & Hospital.
According to police sources, Molla made the threatening comments while participating in the protest organized by the All India Secular Front (AISF). The AISF leadership stated that the comments were personal to the accused. The party disavowed the threats and will not take responsibility for Molla’s actions.

This development came a day after Tulika Das, Chairperson of the West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights (WBCPCR), sent a letter to the police. Das urged prompt action and requested an action taken report, along with copies of the FIR and other relevant documents, within two days. This would allow the Commission to take further steps.
The Commission had taken suo motu cognizance of the case after the video surfaced. The video allegedly shows Molla offering a reward of Rs 10 crore for committing the crime. Trinamool Congress leaders filed complaints at various police stations across districts.
The Trinamool Congress strongly condemned the comments, referring to them as the actions of “a bunch of animals” disguised as advocates for ‘Justice for R.G. Kar’. Opposition party leaders also denounced the threat against the minor girl.
