West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee delivered a scathing response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s assurances outlined in the BJP’s Lok Sabha election manifesto. Speaking at an election rally in Assam, the Trinamool Congress leader dismissed Modi’s promises, alleging that “riot is their (the BJP government’s) only guarantee” and expressing scepticism about Modi’s intentions to benefit anyone.
Banerjee pledged that the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) would not be implemented in West Bengal, condemning the BJP government for purportedly transforming the nation into a “detention camp.” She criticized the BJP government as ‘jumlebaaz’, asserting her lack of fear towards any threats.

In contrast, the BJP, in its manifesto, reiterated its commitment to implementing the CAA and Uniform Civil Code nationwide. Banerjee contended that democracy would be at stake if Modi were to win again, vowing that an INDIA bloc government would repeal what she described as discriminatory laws.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi accused Banerjee of belittling the festival of Ram Navami with her social media post urging peace. Trivedi highlighted the discrepancy between Banerjee’s call for peace during religious occasions and her alleged attempt to demean Indian and Sanatani culture by implying that maintaining peace was unnecessary during Ram Navami celebrations.
